Technical Guide 2018


The Juventus Cycling Club is hosting this event in an effort to promote youth cycling in Alberta. Alex Stieda has offered his name to this event and is working hard preparing our young Edmonton area athletes. Weekend Race Format

We are hosting a three stage Omnium event. Each stage will be prized. At the end of the weekend, points from all stages will be tallied and the weekend winner by category will be crowned and prized.

You must partake in all three events for consideration in the overall Omnium placement/prizing. Riders not finishing an individual event will be removed from the overall weekend Omnium prizing.

Everyone finishing the stage but placing fifteenth or higher will receive a single point.
The points you acquire in the Criterium will be applied to your overall point tally.

Omnium Final Prizing

The Stieda Classic 2018 race winners are determined by totalling points acquired in the Road Race + Individual Time Trial + Criterium Points Race.

  • In the event of a tie, the better time from individual time trial will be used to determine final placement.
  • Failure to start (DNS) or finish (DNF) one of the stages eliminates you from the weekend overall omnium prizing.

Special Notes

  • The Road Race stage will not contain a gravel section like years past for the simple fact that this race is being used for Team Alberta Junior Selections.
  • An individual time trial is scheduled for late afternoon Saturday which is necessary for the Junior Selection process.
  • ABA upgrade points are not awarded from the overall Omnium standings. Upgrade points are awarded for individual stage results.

Donations To Youth Cycling

Juventus Cycling supports youth cycling.  Through our development programs, we consistently place road, track, mountain, and cyclocross riders on provincial and national teams.  Donations received will help cover athlete costs to compete at BC Youth Provincials and Junior Track Cycling Worlds.  Please consider placing a donation to help these young athletes chase their dreams in our Zone 4 registration page.

Notes From The ABA

Wheel Cars

“Wheel cars will be wheels in wheels out unless the car is full where then it will become neutral.” See the 2017 rule changes for additional information.

Women’s Ability Categories

According to 2017’s regulation changes, Women’s races will continue to be broken down into 1/2/3 & 4/5. Category 3 women must race with the 1/2 group.

Disc Brakes

For the 2018 race season Cycling Canada permits the use of disc brakes.

Race Numbers

Each racer is assigned a Race Number to be used throughout the year. All racers that have already acquired their number must use it for this race. Failing to bring your personal race number to this event will result in a fine of $10 (CASH) to help cover the cost of a replacement number. There are no exceptions to this rule. Make sure to check that you have your numbers well before your start time.

Rider Conduct

Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated, including but not limited to public urination, littering, use of profane language and verbal abuse of officials. Anti-Doping Rule Violation

The ABA complies with and fully supports the UCI anti-doping regulations, the clauses of the World Anti-Doping Code and its international standards to which the UCI anti-doping regulations refer and to the anti-doping regulations of other competent bodies as per the regulations of the UCI.
